It is a hexagram about a current, and about the fact that a current has a direction and can be interrupted. Whatever sits at the top has released part of itself downward, and the entire configuration draws its momentum from that transfer continuing.

Wind above and thunder below, both belonging to wood, each extending the other's reach. During a period like this the ordinary rule about effort and result is suspended. A seed thrown onto this wind travels further than it has any business travelling.

Hexagram 42 in love and relationships

Someone with more is giving to someone with less. Which way that runs, and whether it keeps running, is the whole health of the arrangement.

Most relationships are asymmetric at any given moment. One person has more money, more capacity, more steadiness, more available attention, and the asymmetry moves around over the years. The figure treats that as ordinary rather than as a problem, and puts its attention on whether the surplus is actually moving.

The second line receives something offered freely and the correct response is to accept it without suspicion. That is harder than it reads.
